B-MOVIE OF THE MONTH - DEAD END (2003)

Made for less than a million dollars, the slightly obscure Dead End is a chilling little indie you don't want to miss. It might just be the best Christmas horror movie no one ever heard of and every dollar is up there on the screen. It's quirky, weird, funny, bizarre, and scary all at once. Black comedy for sure but much more, this would make a nice double feature with The Perfect Host, another movie we're big on around here. So, grab some eggnog and a snack or two and check out the inimitable Ray Wise with legendary Lin Shaye as they take their family down a wrong turn, what's up with this road? Why doesn't it end? After all, they're just trying to make it to Christmas Eve dessert at Frank's mother's house. Tubi, Plex, Freevee, enjoy! 2.75 stars/2.75

MATT DILLON IS A "FACTOTUM" (2005) - DEFINED AS A PERSON WHO DOES LOTS OF ODD JOBS OR EVEN MORE PERCISELY A PERSON WHO CAN'T KEEP ONE!

A French-Norwegian co-production with an American cast, Matt Dillon kills it in one of his best performances since Drugstore Cowboy. He plays a wanna-be writer who can't get published and keeps trying all these odd jobs. It's a a comedy-drama perfectly paced with equal combinations of both, Dillon's totally in his character, we find him crude and crass but also want to root for his everyman qualities.

Liv Taylor is equally awesome as his on-again off-again girlfriend and Marisa Tomei has a couple of nice scenes as another girlfriend. There are quite a few supporting roles, all of them great. For a film nobody ever heard of it won more than several international festival awards including Taylor for best actress. Currently streams on Hulu or Amazon VOD only. Highly recommend,  3.0 stars/5
